Who’s Got Your GOAT?

Tom Brady, love him or hate him, he’s got a pretty impressive body of work behind him and he’s not talking retirement yet…

The discussion of the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) status for any athlete is at best speculative. The term “All Time” muddies the conversation and incites arguments between the generations.

If you use Super Bowl appearances and wins as the criteria for NFL QBs, what about guys like Bart Starr who won most of their championships prior to the Super Bowl era?

Using statistics of any kind to determine who is the best ever is disingenuous. But, at the same time how can this term be quantified without using the stats? So, it is with statistics that many rate Tom Brady as the GOAT.

Here in Wisconsin many consider Aaron Rodgers as the GOAT, but to date his numbers in many categories pale to Brady’s. IT is often said that what drives Rodgers are the frequent disrespect he has had to endure starting with his draft position.

Even in the statistic of being under valuated or disrespected in their NFL draft class gives Brady the edge. Aaron was the 24th pick in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft. Brady was the 199th pick in the 6th round of the 1999 NFL draft. Brady is the epitome of overachiever. Brady wins in the ‘chip on his shoulder’ category.

Brady’s winning and longevity numbers are an NFL statistical anomaly. He has been on an NFL roster for 21 seasons, even by QB standards that is freakish. In fact, freakish is the best way to describe most of his league leading stats. Most Super Bowl appearances and starts at 10. Most Super Bowl wins at 7. Most career passing yards both regular season and playoffs, TDs, Pro Bowl selections, QB wins as a starter both regular season and playoffs, Super Bowl MVP awards. Brady’s list of mosts is exhaustive.

Plus, and this is a huge plus. Tom Brady has never endured a losing season on any team that he has play for. College or NFL. Practically unheard of.

So, if you can’t bring yourself to call him the GOAT, you must at least admit that he has an impressive list as the Most Of All Time (MOAT) credentials. Love him, hate him, could care less about him. The lifetime achievements are impressive.
